Top Beauty Trends for Prom & Beyond
With Award-Winning Makeup Artist,
Sabrina Rinaldi
In honour of our first-ever prom collection, we turned to celebrated MUA, Sabrina Rinaldi, to tell us all about what’s trending in special occasion glam. A longtime collaborator of ours, she got her start in the beauty industry working at her family’s salons and has since built a flourishing career, recently winning makeup artist of the year at the 2024 CAFA Awards. Here, she breaks down how to achieve 3 key beauty looks, perfect for prom and every other special event on your calendar, too.
Sabrina’s advice no matter which type of glam you go for: Even out your skin tone for a flawless base, and fill in your brows, curl your lashes and put on mascara.

01. Soft Glam
Key features: Bright, natural and rosy.
What you’ll need:
- Mauve, pink & white eyeshadow
- A shimmer stick
- Cream & powder blush
- Highlighter
- Lip gloss
Step 1: Use mauve eyeshadow as a base and go in with a soft shimmer stick on top, making sure to blend. Add pink eyeshadow on the centre of the lid and use a bright white to highlight the inner corner of the eye.
Step 2: Apply cream blush by tapping it onto the upper part of the cheek and layer on a shimmery powder blush for longevity. For a unique look, Sabrina suggests combining two different shades.
Step 3: Select a very small brush to apply highlighter to the upper cheekbone and finish off the look with a shiny lip gloss.

“For every makeup look, I always start with the eyes, so if there’s any fallout from the eyeshadow, you’re not ruining your foundation underneath.”

02. Retro Glam
Key features: Classic with a modern twist.
What you’ll need:
- Kohl eyeliner pencil
- Liquid liner
- Lip liner
- Matching lipstick
Step 1: Start by giving your face some warmth and definition with some light contour on a matte foundation.
Step 2: Create your winged liner shape with a black kohl eyeliner pencil. Sabrina recommends a horizontal, feline shape to elongate the eyes and add a modern touch. Then, add a long-wearing liquid liner on top to make it last all night long.
Step 3: Take a lip liner and subtly go right over the natural lip for a slightly overlined look. Then, fill in the lines with a matching lipstick.

“My favourite tip when doing a liner is to start with a black eye kohl, so you can take your time creating whatever wing shape you like.”

03. Dark Glam
Key features: Dramatic and defined.
What you’ll need:
- Kohl eyeliner pencil
- Smokey eyeshadow
- Concealer
- Contour stick
- Lip gloss
Step 1: Use a creamy concealer as an eyeshadow base. Then, take a kohl liner, run it along the lash line and smudge it out for that smokey feel. Add powder eyeshadow to really dial up the drama.
Step 2: For highlight, you can also use concealer. Start under the eye and bring it down the face to really highlight the apple of your cheek. Next, take a contour stick and draw a line to cut the cheekbone a little higher up. You can also frame your face and nose. (Remember, a little product goes a long way and blending well is key.)
Step 3: Balance out the dramatic smokey eye and sculpted face with a light lip gloss.
